First Apple Harvest

I have no idea the variety of these apples. Twelve or thirteen years ago  (I would have to do the math) the kids and I ate a Granny Smith apple. We sowed the seed and let it grow in a small container of soil on the kitchen counter by the window. Well wouldn't you know it grew and grew. My brother said,  "I think we should plant this in the yard now" and that was several years ago. Last year there was one blossom. This year there were oodles. I have learned that the variety is determined by the variety of the other apple tree it has pollenated with in the neighborhood. Only God knows. And did you know that people know how many seeds are in an apple but only God knows how many apples are in a seed? ;)

The tree definitely needs to be pruned. It never has been.  But these late ripening apples taste great and are nice and crispy! (wish I could have you sample them now, Elaine. They're finally ripe!)

Once we prune the tree, my son will make an apple wood pen on his great -great -grandfather's lathe similar to the one pictured below.  His Papa taught him and his sister how:

Dish Cloths

Crocheting dish cloths like a mad woman. Next up: I must get more applesauce made.

Back of the Quilt

This is what the back looks like so far. Once I get into the rhythm of quilting, it goes quickly and is fun.

Let The Quilting Begin!

Beginning to hand quilt the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.

Scrubbies

Knitted square scrubbies. I am knitting cotton yarn and about 1" width of thule (did I spell that right?) together. It's a quick project and they're great for cleaning pots and pans. Plus it's nice to have a project that I can quickly see a finished product.
