First Apple Harvest
I have no idea the variety of these apples. Twelve or thirteen years ago (I would have to do the math) the kids and I ate a Granny Smith apple. We sowed the seed and let it grow in a small container of soil on the kitchen counter by the window. Well wouldn't you know it grew and grew. My brother said, "I think we should plant this in the yard now" and that was several years ago. Last year there was one blossom. This year there were oodles. I have learned that the variety is determined by the variety of the other apple tree it has pollenated with in the neighborhood. Only God knows. And did you know that people know how many seeds are in an apple but only God knows how many apples are in a seed? ;)
The tree definitely needs to be pruned. It never has been. But these late ripening apples taste great and are nice and crispy! (wish I could have you sample them now, Elaine. They're finally ripe!)
Once we prune the tree, my son will make an apple wood pen on his great -great -grandfather's lathe similar to the one pictured below. His Papa taught him and his sister how:

Back of the Quilt
This is what the back looks like so far. Once I get into the rhythm of quilting, it goes quickly and is fun.

Scrubbies
Knitted square scrubbies. I am knitting cotton yarn and about 1" width of thule (did I spell that right?) together. It's a quick project and they're great for cleaning pots and pans. Plus it's nice to have a project that I can quickly see a finished product.

Ta Da!
The top has officially been stitched as of just after midnight this morning. It's been about a year. I will go through these posts and see exactly when I started the project. This morning I bought batting and a backing that is a white background with green polka dots. I knew I wanted a simple fabric pattern for the backing and what I found will fit the bill.
This is what the back looks like. Today's project is to snip away all the basting stitches and gather up all the hexagon English paper pieces.

It IS bearing fruit!
While giving our son's apple tree a good watering this morning, I noticed a whole lot of apples in the making on his tree. How exciting! It has taken 11 or 12 years for this to happen. Now to keep the critters away.

Apple Tree From Seed 2003
A seed from a Granny Smith apple eaten by our son in 2003 was sowed. This is the first time we have seen so many blossoms. Hope it bears fruit.

Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt (as of today)
The row of different fabrics around the outer edge is complete. Up next: one row white, one row green, and then I will snip the basting stitches to get the English paper pieces out.
